Boiler water should not be treated according to a generic “pure water” target. The required treatment depends on feed-water chemistry, boiler operating conditions, condensate return and the complete steam system. A boiler can operate with water that looks perfectly clear while dissolved minerals and gases gradually create scale, corrosion or deposit problems inside the system.
